David Dinger South Manitou Lighthouse Memorial, August 4, 2011, South Manitou Island, MI.

What? The David Dinger South Manitou Memorial.  David requested that his ashes be placed below the South Manitou Lighthouse.  We will be celebrating David’s life at the lighthouse on South Manitou Island and placing his ashes this summer.

When? Thursday August 4, 2011, Ferry leaves at 1:00 PM.

How? You can ONLY get to South Manitou Island by boat.  We have chartered a Ferry to take us to South Manitou Island. The ferry will leave Leland at 12:00 PM (note that his is a chartered ferry, not the regular service to the island).  You should plan on arriving no later than 12:45 PM to arrange for parking, get organized and board the ferry.   The ferry departs from the dock in Leland, MI, directions are here. The ferry will return before nightfall.  Organizers will be hosting a hot dog cookout on the island for dinner.  You should eat lunch before getting on the ferry or bring/buy a lunch to eat on the approximate 90 minute ferry ride.  Return time to Leland is expected to be between 9:00-9:30.

We need an RSVP for each person taking eh David Dinger ferry so we can get a head count. Please RSVP for the ferry here.

More Details?

  • There will be a request for donations for the ferry charter of $25 adults and  $10 kids, collected on the dock prior to departure.
  • If you plan on camping on the island, you must take and return on the regular Manitou Island Transit ferry at their scheduled departure times, more details here.  Note the regular ferry check-in time is 9:15 AM.  you must take the regular ferry so you can return on the regular ferry the following day.
  • A dinner hot dog BBQ will be held on the island at about 4:30 PM, hosted by friends and family of David.  The location will be posted on the island.
  • The ferry will leave the island about 7:45 back to Leland the same day.
